Giving Back
We are a volunteer-run, Canadian CRA approved charity made up of a group of like-minded people interested in making a difference.
We represent a cross-section of Canadians who understand there is an obligation of those living in prosperity to other humans and have the mutual goal of providing a financially efficient, minimal overhead, “hands-on” charity to provide opportunities for less fortunate children to realize their full potential.
Murray Nunns
President & CEO
Murray is a geologist and oil and gas executive who has spent more time in boardrooms and planes than is healthy for any human. He has always believed that we have an obligation to help our fellow human beings and in his retirement has turned his skill set towards doing just that.
While traveling in Southeast Asia, chance meetings with local people opened doors that one could only imagine.
Katherine Davies
VP of Operations
Katherine has a PhD from the University of Victoria and a project management professional (PMP) designation, and works with Matty at Aryze Developments, helping oversee the daily operations of the company.
Katherine and her husband Daniel have two kids; they have always placed a priority on instilling the importance of philanthropy and the understanding that everyone—no matter how big or small—has something to give. She believes it's critical for the next generation to understand what we as Canadians take for granted every day: food, clean water, shelter, education, and security.
Katherine ensures active projects are well-coordinated with the Cambodian team and helps with future-state planning and organization. She loves being able to see the impact of the organization’s work first hand, and to be part of a dynamic team helping to create positive change in so many young lives.
Monty Bowers
VP of Water Projects
Monty has been President, CEO, and a Director of Corex Resources Ltd. since 2011. He has also been a director of several other oil and gas companies and currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Explorers and Producers Association of Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and is both a Professional Engineer and Professional Geologist with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
Monty has three children and six grandchildren whom he is extremely proud of who enjoy all the benefits of living in Canada. He became involved in One Degree Forward through his relationship with the Chairman, Murray Nunns,
Trish Mulder
VP of Funding & Development
Trish currently is the Director of Business Development at Katalyst Data Management has extensive experience and passion around asset management, A&D transactions and data analytics within the oil and gas industry. She spends much of her time giving back to the industry and local communities as the Chair for WiSE (Women in Seismic) golf charity event that supports the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the CSEG The Foundation as well as a Founding Member and Social Lead for the Calgary Geoscience Data Management Society. She supports and has presented at many conferences within North America to share her knowledge and passion of the industry.
Trish and her partner Jason have both been to Cambodia to experience and obtain a better understanding of One Degree Forward Canada’s education, development and water programs.That experience changed their perspective on life and they have mutual goals to continue to help Cambodian people and others in their quality of life and educational ambitions.
Matty Jardine
VP of Construction Projects
Matty is the Founder and Co-owner of Aryze Developments Inc., a Victoria-based development and construction company. He is a trained artist with a passion for design, form, people, and business.
He and his wife Nikki Jardine are parents to three incredible boys.
Having traveled to and volunteered in a number of places/organizations around the world, Matty’s eyes have been opened to the disparity in how westerners live in contrast to what the majority of the world faces on a daily basis in the 3rd world. This knowledge all but necessitated his involvement in One Degree Forward to share the blessings and love that have been poured out on us.
JASON TENNANT
VP of Communications
Jason possesses both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts and is currently applying his expertise as a Human Resources Professional.
Jason's volunteer experience encompasses supporting individuals with diverse physical and mental abilities, focusing on enhancing their independence and facilitating vocational placements. The work extended beyond mere assistance, aiming to empower those they help to achieve greater self-sufficiency.
He's enthusiastic and effective in contributing to One Degree Forward’s organizational objectives.
During his free time, Jason indulges in photography and videography - including much of the imagery on this site.
His only apparent flaw is being a die hard Edmonton Oilers fan.
Darnell Getz
CFO & VP of Finance
Darnell is a partner at Getz & Getz Chartered Professional Accountants, a small public practice accounting firm located in Victoria, BC that provides accounting and taxation services.
Darnell enjoys contributing to One Degree Forward and watching the progress in the schools, corresponding with everyone involved, and learning how much the organization has helped the villages and donees.
