Developing School Infrastructure

One Degree Forward has funded and helped project manage the construction of two new schools in the Cambodian villages Krov and Samrong.

School development includes upgrades to classrooms, administrative facilities, community spaces, latrines, wells, and water storage treatment systems as well as improving safety standards for electrical, water, and operational aspects of the schools.

Education Programs & Teacher Training

Programs focus on English skills to improve opportunities for employment and further education.

Canadian educational volunteers provide ongoing educational support. We have initiated staff administrative standards, reviewed curriculum, and provided supplementary programs involving preschool and agriculture. Community education will be added as COVID restrictions are eased.

One Degree Forward is also developing a “Teach the Teacher” program to enhance Cambodian teachers’ skills.

Supply Shortages

One Degree Forward provides essential school and teaching supplies for village students. We fund teachers salaries on a 3-year rolling basis to maintain consistency.

In addition, we support food programs for students without means; no one learns on an empty stomach.

During the COVID shut-down from March-November 2020, we worked with our donees to ensure hygiene lessons and supplies were made available to students and villagers through the school.

Krov School

In 2019 we supported the development of the Krov school structure; previously an open air space. In addition to the school structure, we added a courtyard for village gatherings, enhanced water supply, and washroom facilities, and established an agricultural planting program.

Samrong School

In early 2020 the construction of a new school structure, library, and administrative centre was completed, along with associated water and sanitation facilities. Our teams were instrumental in aiding the design, construction, and funding of the project.
